  1. Hi Guys,

In 2 months time I move house and wilbe getting a HD TV LCD.

I have a bundle of .mkv HD DVD files which I would love to play on my new TV, however, the DVD player will not support the files types and neither will my XBOX 1. The PC will be upstairs, so the question is how do i play the files as the prices of HD DVD's are too expensive.

    Answers on a postcard please.

    Please help,

    BR

    Dan

use womble's mpeg2dvd to cpnvert, the cheapest way. You lose a little resolution but you should be fine.

There was another thread earlier in the week on a similar topic. One good alternative would be to look at a media extender device such as the MediaGate or Zensonic. They can play a variety of formats from either thier local HDD (MediaGate) or DVD (Zensonic), or stream directly from your PC via ethernet or wireless. Both are wireless G, which may not be able to sustain full HD, but ethernet should. Something to consider.

  4. thanks guys.

I thought there would be such a system but never looked. It seems as the technology is new it would always be tough to find a simple way of watching mkv files on my TV. Current avi files play on my xbox but obviously the HD spec is too high for the poor thing.

    What about something like this:

The advantage of the wireless/ethernet extenders is that they can stream from your PC in any format your PC can play. The HDD only versions are more limited in the formats they can play, which means some re-encoding.
