First and I think last time I will have tried using PVR's encoder resulted in it using up all my HD's disc space.
And odd as it seems, if I'm not wrong, it used up some 39GB despite only some 32GB being available.
I'd simply dragged two mpg files into the encoding box, delineated the parameters (mpeg 2 DVD) and initiated the start of encoding. After some several hours, the encoder status indicated 102%, then hours later 576%, hours later after it used up all my HD disc space 1226%.
Fortunately at that point, even though clicking the encoder's stop link button and it seemed to respond somewhat, but none of it's functions were accessible, couldn't even close it. Task manager noted it as not responding.
Unknowing as to where the encoder's temp file was (so's to delete it), I deleted a single hefty file hoping to enable my HD to begin recovering from or reallocating HD disc space so's to avoid a blue death screen or worse.
As I'm not sure if my OS has some sort of safeguard built in or if I just got lucky at that point (my CPU use lite at least flicker on and off for some 10 minutes, so I then set about first end tasking the encoder, then searched and found the encoder's output (problem) file and deleted its 39GB file.
Odd that nothing I can detect on my Event Viewer is indicating what went wrong, but its obvious that it was the encoder. I consider it flakey as at no time did the encoder prompt of any problem and its inconceivable that the software designer wouldn't build in an error pop-up capability, that or at very least a safeguard for running the disc space out to 'nothing'.
No surprise that honesttechnology support isn't answering my support request as their support menu lists all versions of the encoder except mine (4.0.0.1), nor will I hold my breath waiting on a reply.
