What exactly is AAF and how do I use it

I have come across this format /process or whatever it is and downloaded the sdk from sourceforge but now I have no idea how to use this. Can someone give me a general idea I want this is and how to implement it in my video encoding?

I actually read those links before I posted. I guess my problem is after downloading the sdk file what do I do with it? I do not see an executable file. Is there a guide to use this?
