Followed the instructions for unlocking region code on Wintal X30 DVDR
It requires you to open the DVD draw before entering code, then stipulates that the DVD Splash screen must be visible whilst typing code.
BUT .... when you open the drawer, the unit reverts to the TV signal, and will not allow to go back to DVD splash screen until drawer is closed again.
Thus, when entering in the code, with the drawer open & TV signal, the machine just thinks you're trying to enter a TV station number.
    Any clues.
I have searched forums, no avail, and spoken to supplier, who has had no trouble unlocking previous versions of this machine (X20 etc).
    Any help appreciated.

Does the splash screen remain if the TV input is removed?

    Welcome haiq

    http://wintal.com.au/downloads.html = firmware
    http://www.dtvforum.info/lofiversion/index.php/t26997.html

You have to be pretty quick , and can take multiple cracks at it before it works .

Some have had same issue ... is unit plugged in to power point directly ... bad idea , sensitive equipment needs protection .

Try unplugging , and wait 15 minutes ... should have cooled down completely by then , and try again .

    Mines the dvdrx250

Sounds more like an internal error , so check for firmware update ... if it dosent cure the issue , the unit needs to be serviced by wintal , or live with it in region locked state ,

Thx Guys, i've kept trying, waiting for some kind of confirmation on the screen that I now have region 4 or region free etc, after punching in the numbers.
But, i tried a region 2 dvd last night and a US one, and they both work. So it must have unlocked it, but didnt give me any confirmation.
    So all is good.
And yes, it's all plugged into surge/o'load protection boards.

I have noticed with this product, it seems to "freeze" occassionaly and requires a re-boot to get it's brain back.

Pretty normal if unit is left on for extended periods ... it says in the manual to disconnect from power when not in use ... pretty stupid idea .

The same happens to game consoles .

Though , you have to wonder when you can smell the circuitry when its warmed up ...

There's methods of adding extra cooling systems to all kinds of devices , which might be of some help ... most are self made modifications , adapted to suit the unit in question .

Might be worth a look in ebay for suitable parts , or online elsewhere ... if your handy .

Suitable case to fit externally to devices ventilation ports , fans , psu ... just depends if you just want a wirly wirly type , or a full scale hurrican to suck heated air out of unit .
