    Hi all,

ive been given some film music to do but my music app (sony acid) wouldn't read the video file (.mov) meaning i had to sync to the soundtrack- basically not easy as i was never able to watch the video and music in sync....

im looking for something that i can layout the video track and then bring in my own audio track or mix the existing one with mine... basically so i can compose with it in sync....

it has to be free or relatively cheap- if i was doing this pro i'd buy a dedicated editor like adobe or something

I'd use Vegas, simply because it's audio capabilities are top notch.

Are you simply lining up a single track, or trying to add a full soundtrack in pieces ?

a single track- the music has been written in acid against the audio track but i can only zoom into to each second on my video player not the frames- so if i had an app that allowed me to lay the video track out (like in adobe premier) and then put my audio track underneath- sync the audio to the frames by chopping the audio file up or getting eact time stamps and then saving that whole mess as a new .mov

a opretty basic need, all the main sound design/composition is done in acid

if i was doing this professionally i'd most like get a copy of adobe or something but this is a favour to an independant film company

If it is for a one-off project, download the demo version of Vegas and use that. I suggest Vegas instead of Premiere for two reasons. The first is simple bias - I just don't like Premiere and have never had good experiences with it. The other is practical - the layout and tools used in Vegas are very close to what you are used to in Acid, so you won't have as steep a learning curve. Do your final cut in Vegas before the demo runs out.

It might even be worth just using Vegas Movie Studio instead. It should be able to do what you need, and if you like it, isn't as expensive to buy.

yeah it is, ill check it out- intutive is good, i only mention adobe as that what i used years ago and found it pretty easy (then again that was in comparison to analog editing!!) so would like something easy to pick up and if it acts in anyway like acid ill be at home

    cheers

You will be surprised just how much like Acid it is.

excellent, despite acid not having the best audio engine the GUI is pretty darn good!! ive since done a bit of reading here and notice that adobe doesn't seem to be intuitive enough for using it quickly
