I have some tape starting in the afternoon and progressing into the night. the lighting at night is somesoft chistmas type lights from above. so the image isn't a good. i'm encoding with tmpgenc with the standard svcd template.
what are some good filters or tips i can use to maintain image clarity. the night scenes, which are aprox. 2/3 of the recordings, begin to show blockiness and like more color flecks than are really there. they were recorded on a digital 8 camera. and captured with firewire.
anything would be very helpful, because these scenes are very important to me.

Spatial and temporal smoothers can help a lot for for lowlight sources that exhibit a lot of grainyness.
