errors on side of video, horizontal bars from top to bottom

I tried multiple codecs but the errors remain

screen capture won't work for some reason

I can't get rid of the horizontal bars on the side (--)
the errors happened in most but not all avi, wmv, and some mpg files using windows media classic. I tried playing on a friends computer and they work fine so I know its not the files.
codec installed are from cccp pack.

tried the files in powerDVD, and they work fine. Problems in VLC, media player 11, media player classic.

Any suggestions?

Try playing the same video in WMP 11 and MPC at the same time. Do both show the same problem?

When was the last time you updated the graphics drivers ?

Codec packs are known to be bad things to install
