Hello, I currently need to convert a bunch of High Definition movies to non HD format, does anyone know good converters or encoders that can do that? Thanks.

You're a little ahead of the curve in wanting to do this. To be blunt, the only ways to do this right now are very time consuming and involve the ability to write scripts in Avisynth. If you are saying "What is Avisynth" or you are looking for the equivalent of DVDShrink for HD video, you are not really going to be ready to do this yourself. If you want to try, go to
    http://www.doom9.net
and look at the forums where they have an ongoing discussion on how to do this, mostly using Windows Media Encoder. Results have been mixed, with some people having more success than others. I have weird Avisynth issues on my PC (I suspect it may be due to too many different programs installing their own versions of Avisynth), so the method discussed at Doom9 didn't work for me. I was able to get Dr. Divx to re-encode an HD-DVD rip to Divx, but I had very strange issues with the audio and it ended up being more trouble than it was worth to try to solve it.

It would also be helpful to know the type of source files. If you are talking HD avi files or something similar, that is different than HD DVD rips.

Try ConvertXToDVD if your movies are ts files. It works very quickly. The resulting DVD picture is very good but sometimes first frames in the resulting DVDs are frozen. I cannot find a fix for the bug yet.
