    Hello everyone.

    I've just ordered a Panasonic Camcorder. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/477198-REG/Panasonic_PVGS85_PV_GS85_Ultra_Compact_Mini_DV.html

It has IEEE1394 i/o connections which i want to use instead of the USB.
I don't have a Firewire card. My motherboard is GA-K8NSC-939.
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherbo...e=GA-K8NSC-939

I know nothing about Firewire cards and motherboard compatibilities.

I have a couple of questions.

    1. Could i encounter any compatibility problems with this motherboard and any modern Firewire card?

    2. Let's pretend that the speed of a Firewire card is not a factor. Is there a good reason for why not to get the cheapest card, especially for my minimal needs?

    Thank you.

As long as it's OHCI Compliant, it doesn't matter much, it would have to meet the specifications for the format. The very cheapest one you could find may not be a good idea as the quality of the connectors and the PC board itself may be inferior. But about any other should be fine. BTW, I have the same motherboard in one of my computers.

But this motherboard is not OHCI compliant, it is PCI 2.3 complianat, at least that's what it says in the link. Am i wrong?

  4. So you simply need a PCI Firewire card. It should be cheap anyway.

    Cheers

Sorry, the FireWire card needs to be OHCI compliant, but just about every one is these days.
