I am trying to make a motion menu with images on top of it for a DVD i'm making. So I just need a program that can put an image on top of the video. I have VirtualDub, but the filter for adding a 'logo' will only accept .bmp and .trg files which cannot be saved with transparency. I have an image that is cut out and need to just put it over the video not a whole 800x600 white block with the image... Should be fairly simple i'd think. Just need the right program or filter?
I have Virtualdub, TMPGenc, Adobe Premiere 6.5...
Any help would be great!

Any editing program that supports compositing.
That includes Premiere Elements, Video studio, etc. but if you want control you need to move up to prosumer versions.
Geekware will get you there but you need to understand the concept of "alpha".Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Save the image and the alpha channel as separate files. Use them both in VirtualDub's logo filter:

AviSynth's Overlay command can put the small pic onto the larger video. It accepts images in a variety of formats using the ImageSource command. Overlay's X and Y parameters control the location on the screen, and the Opacity parameter controls the transparency:

Geekware will get you there...How about "Freeware" or "CommonSenseWare"?

I did a little looking around -- 7 inch widescreen car players appear to be 480x234. So encoding at 352x240 may not look too bad. It's worth a try.

You said you have Premiere 6.5, well that supports overlays and alpha channels. If you have Photoshop, make and save the transparent image in PSD format. Import into Premiere 6.5, if it doesn't directly detect alpha channel, Right-Click on clip and select "transparencies". Set to "White Alpha Matt" (if I remember correctly, it's been a long time).
Otherwise use the chromakey plugin and key out the transparent color.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
