Is there anything under Open Source like HJSplit to joint identical (same bit/frame rate...etc) wmv or avi/mpeg files?

I couldn't use HJSplit for joining my wmv files as they were NOT created using HJSlit! I'm using Avidemux/Blaze Media Pro but couldn't find anything in the menu for joining files???

    Thanks.

Open source and proprietary formats like WMV, RM, and a few others don't often go together. MS, for one, makes it fairly difficult for others to come up with alternative editing or joining programs. RM is similar.

Why not just use Windows Movie Maker for WMV formats?

For AVI, it depends on the format. There are many open source programs available. VirtualDub would be my first choice. MPEG is slightly more limited, but Cuttermaran is one that is freeware and comes to mind. For Payware, there are quite a few in both catagories.

    And 'joining' is editing.

    Thanks redwudz!

Windows Movie Maker is not that easy to use (at least for me)!....I've 2 identical (same bit/frame...etc) wmv files, do I just drag file 1 to story line 1 and file 2 to story line 2 and "save file as"?

I'm still trying to find something that will skip the "encoding" process, since it's just a simple join operation

    Regards.

I don't really use WMM either, or WMV, if I can avoid it. But I see in another post the mention of AsfBin and I see it can cut and join WMV. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks gsing and especially redwudz for mentioning AsfBin 8)

The latest AsfBin 1.6 is still using manual command line (no GUI version yet), but after reading the readme file included, I was able to combine my wmv files in less than 10 secs using command "asfbin -i first.wmv -i second.wmv -o big.wmv", WOW :P , AsfBin is excellent!

I also managed to learn using WMM to combine both my wmv files using "save as", however the exact operation as above took 15 mins to complete due to the "encoding" process, whereas the AsfBin process = NO "encoding" involved!

Here are my final results for using AsfBin and WMM for the identical operation:

    AsfBin
    File1.wmv (74,550KB) Bit:705kbps D:640x480
    File2.wmv (49,720KB) Bit:705kbps D:640x480
    After AsfBin, File1+2.wmv (124,206KB) Bit:705kbps D:640x480
    Pic quality = excellent
Time taken = less than 10 secs

    WMM
    File1.wmv (74,550KB) Bit:705kbps D:640x480
    File2.wmv (49,720KB) Bit:705kbps D:640x480
    After WMM, File1+2.wmv (112,983KB) Bit:641kbps D:640x480
    Pic quality = excellent
    Time taken = 15 mins

Well, AsfBin (at least for me) is the winner! , hope they will have the GUI version for 1.6 soon!

    Regards.
