  1. I was transferring my miniDV tapes when my camcorder broke. I have 50+ tapes I would still like to transfer to DVD and was wondering what is the best camcorder mechanically speaking. I don't care much about optics so if anybody repairs camcorders and can recommend a good model or brand. Also are mini DV decks comparable in cost to camcorders and would one be a better option? Thanks

  2. Mini DV decks are costly.

Go get yourself a cheap Canon ZR200 or something. Walmart, Circuit City. You may even find an open box for $100...

The decks are expensive as mentioned but they are more than just a plain deck, cheapest one at B&H is about $800 but it comes with a HDD and a burner. Other features too like PAL/NTSC compatible.. Haven't seen a ny that are just decks for a consumer.

  4. I figured that decks would be much more costly, probably built better. I was thinking about going with Canon or Panasonic so maybe I'll start being on the lookout for a good Canon MiniDV camcorder deal.
