    Hi,

    I have DVD-rebuilder v. 1.12 with CCE SP2 v 2.70.02.10.

I cannot use CCE SP2, or in fact it doesn’t work. I don’t know if it is shit behind the wheels or CCE SP2 is the problem.

I have placed the exe file, in general setup, under ‘path to CCE SP (new)’ and ticked on ‘CCE SP2 trial (beta test)’ in settings. I have also tested ‘CCE SP’ and ‘CCE SP trial’. Furthermore, I get a message right after the preparation phase. I cannot say exactly what it says, but it is something like ‘the working path doesn’t work, ecl, dns’ etc.

Have I got a bad version of CCE, or are the settings wrong?

  2. Hi-

Upgrade your DVD-RB Pro. They're up to v 1.24 now. Then, if you still have problems, see if this thread will help:

So, they best way is to uninstall DVD.reb and re-install it and see if it can find it by itself?

By the way, I have two versions. Which one should I use?

    Cinema Craft Encoder SP v2.70.02.10
    Cinema Craft Encoder SP2 v1.00.00.04

Did you install CCE to the sub-folders under DVD-RB, or did you copy it there afterwards ?

You should install CCE first, then point DVD RB at it afterwards. DVD RB used to be a pain to set up, but it has been pretty straight forward since about version 0.9, when it started searching for CCE and ProCoder itself.

Your paths look odd unless oyu have actually installed CCE in the DVD RB folders.

I installed the decoders first and then dvd-rebuilder, although it didn't find CCE when I checked it afterward. I then pointed CCE exe file to one of the paths. However, I don't know which path I should select when I use SP or SP2.

In which folder should I install the decoders? Under c:/DVD-Reb Pro/ ?

The way I set it up is to install the encoders first, into their own folders. CCE has it's own folder, ProCoder has it's own folder.

Once they are installed and tested, I install DVD-RB. Part of the installer process is to look for installed encoders. You can tick which ones it will use (CCE or ProCoder or both) and confirm the paths. There is no reason to ever copy the CCE or ProCoder executables to the DVD-RB folder.

I suggest you uninstall CCE/CCE SP and DVD Rebuilder, and start again.

Cheers mate, I will try it as soon as I get away from my miserably office.

Should I use SP2 or SP?

I still use SP 2.70.xxx. I haven't felt a need or seen a justification for the cost to go to SP 2

Agreed - at least for now. CCE has discontinued the SP line and replaced w/ SP2
The primary enhancements for SP2 are that it will work on 64 bit systems and that it will handle HD to SD conversions. If you don't have a need for these two features, there's really no difference in encoding quality. However, at some point down the road, most OS's will move to 64 bit, and many dvd sources will be HD. The transition is only a matter of time. But how long is anybody's guess.
But for now, using 2.70 xx is just fine.

I am somewhat confused by reading different forums. Which encoder should one prefer? Does it depend on the movie, taste or what?

If I'm using HC, how many passes should I use?

HC uses 'settings' instead of # passes - choose 'best' for highest quality.
FYI: HC and QuEnc are very good encoders, and they're free.
