    does anybody know of a macrovision free player
    currently available in the uk ?
    my acoustic solutions player just died and is
    beyond economical repair

    I don't believe any of the newer units are MV free. The older Lite-On units (here in the US) allowed you to disable MV. Beyond that, I don't know of any others. You could always try Ebay for a used unit or if you aren't outputing the video through another device such as a VHS recorder, it shouldn't even be necessary.
