Just wondering what the best program is to create a DVD using an .avi or .mpg file...
I have been using Nero Vision and it's been working fine for me... I just want a simple program that builds a menu and chapters that's simple to use, I dont need anything for syncing audio, editing or any of that, just add a video and burn.... is Nero Vison the best program for that or is there better ones out there?

Also, is there a website that compares and reviews all the dvd burning software?

I can tell you NV is not the best program, not even close For all-in-ones, ConvertXToDVD does a better job for conversions to DVD. Nero is not a good encoder or authoring program. It does OK at burning, though. But even for burning to DVD, I use the freeware ImgBurn, especially for dual layer discs.

For the best quality and control for encoding, the standalone encoders are the way to go: Procoder, CCE, TMPGEnc, etc. Freeware: HC, Quenc, etc.

For Editing: VideoReDo, MPEG-VCR, MPEG Video Wizard, Adobe, etc. Freeware: Cuttermaran, etc.

For Burning: Prassi ONES, Nero Burning ROM, etc. Freeware: ImgBurn, etc. (BTW, these are DVD burning programs, NV isn't. It's a all-in-one program)

There are a lot more in each group, both payware and freeware. Nero tries too hard to do everything and ends up doing little of it well. I still use Nero Burning ROM, though. It works OK for burning data discs and a occasional VIDEO_TS folder.

    And welcome to our forums.
