  1. Hey guys having problems with this avi. Its got a frame that causes it to stop about 80% of the way through. Ive tried virtual dub and vdub mp3 freeze and they cant fic it, it causes them both to crash, also tried avi fix, but that just runs it to that point and then stops giving me a new file 35 minutes long that finishes at the point of the corrupt frame. I need some ideas as to where to go from here please, i cant lose this file lol took me ages to get them all

  2. VirtualDub probably can fix the file unless it crashes when you first open the file. You will lose the entire GOP that contains the bad frame.

First you have to figure out exactly which frame is the bad one. Use the frame slider to get to a point a little before the bad frame. Use the right arrow key to advance one frame at a time until the program crashes. Note the frame number.

Restart Virtualdub and open the file. Hold down a shift key while moving the frame slider to the last keyframe before the bad frame. Mark-out at that point. Save (direct stream copy both the audio and video) as AVI. Now hold down a shift key and move the frame slider to the first keyframe after the bad frame. Mark-in at that point. Move the slider to the end of the file, mark-out. Save as AVI again. You can now use VirtualDub to join the two files together.

You can also try to mark-in at the last keyframe before the bad frame, and mark-out at the next keframe and selecting Edit -> Cut. Then save what's left.

    What sort of crash ?
Are you using the latest version of virtualdub ?
You could also try AVIDemux as an alternative.

  5. What audio and video codecs are used in the AVI file? What's probably happening is the video codec is crashing when decoding a frame. You can try using a different video decoder. For example, if the video is MPEG 4 and you're currently using Divx, try using Xvid instead.

Tried any of the programs like: AVI recode, Videoredo (fix stream), etc. They might be able to fix errors like this.
