I know this should probably go with my previous topic under the same heading but it was a while ago now and the helpers might not read it.
Just to say thanks to redwudz and theewizard for their help. It looks like it was the bios. After trying everything else I flashed the bios with an updated one from Asus and I have converted and burned two movies without problems. Fingers Crossed. I have no idea why the bios would have gone faulty. I hadn't done anything to the computer but there you go. I wouldn't have tried the bios myself so I'm glad someone suggested it.
One more little thing. This may or may not be connected. I have noticed in device manager that under the Processor heading it now says "AMD Athlon XP 2500+" instead of
"AMD Athlon XP 3200+". Any connection with the new bios? Many thanks.

  2. You probably have the bus clocked at 100 MHz rather than 133 MHz. Go to the BIOS and change it to 133 MHz.
