Now that I have apologized for my previous "attitude" on my copy-protection post... I'd like to ask another question:

In Vegas, I'm playing around with the various MPEG2 settings and see that I can render a 480p 59.94fps video. Doubling the framrate in progressive mode should render better video, right? (maybe not)

Can a standard "run-of-the-mill" DVD player even play 59.94fps?

Or am I wasting my time because a standard DVD players "locks-in" at 29.97 NTSC?

  2. I think the player may play it.
    But the authoring...
And the video will not be better. To have the same quality in double the framerate you must double the bitrate and therefore the file size.

  3. You can always render at 59.94fps progressive and then reinterlace it (which will require reencoding it). As Abond says, you won't be able to author 59.94fps progressive for DVD.

Yeah, it would be great, especially for bobbing interlaced sources. Notice the smoothness in the 59.94 sample compared to 29.97.
