Is there a little prog which will encrypt just 1 file on this pc to prevent being opened by any application?

Just for the record - the encryption used in zip files is not very strong!
Try searching Google for File Encryption Utilities -
Blowfish is free to implement and quite strong. Remember that strength is affected by the passphrase you use - For best strength mix case, letters and number and symbols and make it as long as possible. Also throw in at least one "word" which does not appear in a dictionary
A quick look threw up this http://www.codeproject.com/file/fileenc.asp which will probably do what you want and is free. Source is available as well so you can see how it works.
