I want to use a USB extension cable for a wireless USB dongle on one of the systems on my home network. Its just a little too far from my wireless router and moving the router is not an option. I hope to use it to move the dongle to a favourable position, a little closer to the router.
What's the maximum length of the cable I should use, avoiding any problems like USB signal degradation? Would 5 metres be too long?

Spec is 5m. If you need more you can use a repeater. If you need more you can use "extender cables", cables with built in repeaters.
