  1. I have made many dvd backups successfully. Mainly I used dvdecrypter, nero, dvdshrink or dvd2one. The problem I am having is that many were starting to skip. I believed my players preferred the dvd-r over dvd+r so I reburned some of them. Some of these discs actually were so full of read errors that I could no longer read them with the pc. Now why would discs that burned fine all of sudden be unreadable by my standalone players and pc ? The dvds themselvers were kept at a constant 60 degree temp. I am at a loss here. I have cleaned the dvd player lasers. Now movies that did not skip previously are starting to skip. This problem seems to be on all 3 of my standalone players (2 philips & 1 Norvent) as well as playback on a ps2. I have a NEC 3500 burner. I am having a hard time believing that this burner is that bad, I use quality media also. I have made backups of my ps2 games without any trouble. Anyone have any ideas ? I am going to most likely pick up a different brand of dvd player but I don't know why the pc wont read them.

    weird huh ?

    thanks for any responses

  2. Try copying your DVD that skips onto a good quality DVD-R like Verbatim. I've had DVD's that could be read by one recorder, but sticks in another. I solved the problem by copying the disk. Also some of the sticking can be caused by fingerprints on the bottom of the disk. Use a microfibre cloth to clean the smudges by wiping across the disk (NOT in a circular motion).

BTW, what brand of DVD's are you using?

  3. I use a combination of dvds. I have tried tdk, memorex, imation and sony. What is strange to me also is that I backup all of my mp3 music and pc games to dvd. I have never had one return an error. And my music dvds are over 400 in number. It seems to be specific to dvd video. What really sucks is that I have backed up movies to dvd+r that I haven't even watched or handled. They return errors and can't be copied, they also don't play without skipping and stopping. I am wondering if the other factor might be record speed or software ?

    thanks for the response.

Just looking, I had an NEC 3500, its now discontinued and is well over 2 years ago, so it may just be getting old and tired, maybe time to buy a newer NEC burner

Or you could try upgrading the firmware if you have not done that already, but I think it may just be age that is causing problems here
