  1. For the last couple of weeks, my TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-L532A only gives me coasters from DVD-R's. I have been using the same softwares, Nero, DVD Shrink, an CloneDVD to burn homemade video. I also using the same media, Sony and Philips DVD-R's. The burning is always successful, no errors whatsoever, but when I put the burned DVD-R's back into the drive, it gives me messages like, insert a disc or the disc's format is not recognized by windows. I have tried different speed settings still no good. Dvd players can't play these burned DVD-R's either.I also defrag the drive. I try to burn with DVD-RW's and CD-R's, there is no problem and these discs can be played in my computers and DVD players. So the only problem is that the drive can't no longer burn DVD-R's (more than 10 coasters.) I uninstalled all the buring softares and uninstalled the driver, there is still no luck. Please help.

Better media and a better burner will yield better results.

Its possible you just have bad media, however, I experienced a similar issue and it was a failing burner.

  4. I still can't fix it but have found a solution. I now use DVD+R discs instead of DVD-R's. My computer has problem reading burned DVD+R's but at least my DVD players read the burned DVD+R's better. Just don't know what to do with the DVD-R's for now.

This appears to be an older burner. You may want to check you have the latest firmware (if it is still updated). Disc compatibility is controlled via firmware. So if you are having trouble using your new brand Y 16x discs on your burner that was manufactured when there were only 8x discs, you are bound to have issues.

  6. I have an almost identical problem. My DVD-R (HP DVD640) suddenly (mid-February) started producing coasters while claiming the burn proccess was successful. I've gotten a few "burn process failed" as well (which I had zero of in 200+ burns previously). I do sometimes get lucky and discs work though. DVD+RWs work flawlessly.

This happened with Nero Burning ROM 7.7.5.0 as well as the current 7.7.5.1. I had burned 30+ DVDs with 7.7.5.0 before it bugged out on me though.

When I play the discs in my standalone player (Sony DVP-NS900V) it gets stuck now and then (at random few-minute interwalls) and if I fast-forward a couple of seconds I can continue watching. It's like the disc had scratches (though it's perfectly clean).

All of this happen with "PC-Line" 8x media wchich worked for 150+ DVDs previously, with newer 8x no-name media and with Verbatim and TDK 16x media.

First, you should not hijack someone elses thread. Just start a new thread with your problem.

Second, media quality changes from brand to brand and from batch to batch. Even when buying only name brand quality media, you are bound to get a bad spindle now and again. Most playback issues as you describe are media related, typically from using cheap media. However, media quality is only part of the equation, you also have to find the brand(s) and type of media that works for your player.

As for your burning "issue", I've had similar issues in the past, my problem was a failing burner. It always seemed to complete the burns without "errors", but only mayby 1 out of every 5 discs were usable. I would verify you have the latest firmware to rule out media compatibility issues with the burner. If the firmware is up to date and you are still having issues, it is most likely time for a new burner.

You burner may indeed be dying. Try cleaning the lens before trashing the burner.

Apologies for the thread-jack – I figured my issues were so similar it wouldn't qualify for a new thread. Won't happen again.

Firmware is up to date - I've ordered a SATA Samsung SH-S183L to replace it. Thanks for your input.
