I have a problem with my sound being ahead of the video, but it is not ahead (at least not noticeably) for approx 20min each time. I am using Power Producer, is there something else I can use? When I play the converted files (AVI to VOB) on the computer I have no Issues. After Two tries and 4 different files I notice that about 20min into each video the sound gets ahead of the video. I suspect that is slowly getting farther and farther off from the beginning, but it is only truly noticeable about halfway through. please help me.

The usual cause for gradual loss of sync is changing the format (PAL to NTSC, for example) while encoding. Of if the original has a non-standard framerate and you are trying to make it conform to a standard.

This is not a ripped video, but captured video from the UK. Would I still have the PAL/NTSC issue?

Here is the breakdown in my process, given I am very new to the whole thing so cut me some slack. I convert the .avi files to .vob files using xilisoft converter. after that long and tedious process, I use Power Producer to upload the .vob files and burn them to the disk.
Like I said before, the files are TV captures from the Uk.
also, the quality is way worse and I can't seem to match the anamorphic widescreen. any advice on anything related to this post is greatly appreciated.

I guess the problem is xilisofts crappy encoder. Can't you import the avi directly in PowerProducer and let it convert and author to a dvd.

But I would use something else like Tmpgenc dvd author 3 or ConvertXtoDVD.

Well, when I play the encoded file on the PC it is not distorted at all.
I believe that I tried that first, and had an issue with PowerProducer making the anamorphic style avi a full screen picture which distorted it.

I had the same problem with a peice of smfware called DeVeDe on hthe Linux side.
I was doing the same thing with video from the UL which is PAL-land. Here I am int he US which is NTSC land.
I wold have it burn the image (iso) and from there I would burn the disc and have audio syns problems. It would get gradually worse.
There was an updated version of DeVeDe that fixed the problem and it had to do with converting from PAL to NTSC and vice versa.
Before the new version came out I simply burned to PAL and fed the DVD into my Phillips 5960 which can read PAL discs and display it on an NTSC set.
These days I shelled out $100 for Nero 7 and use its transcoding feature and that works perfectly.
So now I'm all caught up on Torchwood, TopGear and the episodes of Stargate Atlantis that haven't been aired her yet! Those wacky AUstralians have differnet seasons than us.
