I have an Xvid HD video which Nero 7 converted to MPEG DVD SD but when I played it,the voice
over audio was way out of sync with the action on screen. Also at times the sound faltered and
image jerky. Also then the audio came to an end so did the video even though there was more
to see. I tried using VideoRedo to correct the problem but that didn't help.
Also had problem playing original XviD on my computer, had the same result.
I there a convertor I can use to do the job properly (also a player?)

    Don't use Nero for conversion.

If you must use a one-click-wonder, try ConvertXtoDVD. Test play from your HDD after conversion to make sure it is in sync. Burn to good quality media.

However, if you cannot play the source cleanly because the source is corrupt, then you will not be able to convert it cleanly.

So-called HD Divx is probably best tested in the Divx Player software itself.

Tried as you suggested and everything seems to be fine. Did get a message after the conversion saying that 4 frames had been duplicated so I guess there were missing frames?
Did try playing in a DivX player but would not play any audio but did get a message saying
that it required an AC3 codec which I did install but whether I did something wrong but it
    still didn't work.

Framerates in avi files aren't always 100% accurate, so a few duplicated or dropped frames are required. If it is only a few then it should not be an issue.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the audio is AC3 5.1, I don't
know if this could have caused a problem?

ConvertXtoDVD will use the audio as-is unless you force a format change. Nero simply isn't a great converter.

All I can tell you that it is 720p and the audio bit rate is 384 kbps.

I tried XConvert toDVD which gave me a perfect copy but being Trialware I had to put up
with the watermark which was large! So, I will have to consider whether it's worth my while
    buying the software.
