Newbie question.
I searched for an hour and read lots of interesting threads, but did not find the answer I was looking for.
I have a UK s-vhsc camcorder and I want to import the home movies to burn them to DVD. I bought a Canopus ADVC 100 from ebay and connected it to the firewire port on my creative audigy card (as used for my Sony TRV-38, NTSC digital camcorder). I then connected the UK camcorder to the Canopus using s-video and rca audio cables. I set the dip switches to PAL mode, analog mode, manual mode, locked audio. When I captured using Windows Movie Maker, I get a sharp picture and good sound, but the images are in black and white.
I had previously used a K-world card and got color pictures, but not so sharp, so I know the output from the camcorder is in color. If I connect the Sony camcorder to the analog inputs, it is in color.
So I suspect I need to set something else to get the PAL image through in color? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you told Windows Movie Maker that you are using PAL DV?

I use a Canopus ADVC 110. On this unit, jumper 5 selects between IRE 0 or IRE 7.5 and PAL or SECAM. Make sure, for PAL captures that it's in the right position (IRE 0/PAL). It can cause the lack of color you are experiencing.
You should also check if you have color with using RCA cables only (composite, instead of s-video) and if that gives you color. You may have a faulty cable then, or the output settings on your camera are incorrect.
And, as stated in the previous post, make sure the software settings are correct. -
I played with it last night and got something reasonable into my laptop.
I then returned to the video editing pc and during acquisition the colors are off. However, if I play it back in Nero the colors look okay but the sound has gaps. If I play it in media player, the colors are off, but the sound is okay.
Is this codec related? I have a k-lite pack installed, I think I will download the most upto date pack, or is there another suite that is recommended?
Thanks for the help. I'll post my dip settigns later.
John
Update - downloading the K-Lite Mega pack v1.66 and Canopus' Playback Codec Pack. I think I will install the latter first and see if it solves the problem. -
You might want to do a forum search for 'K-lite problems'. (And that just lists a few)
K-lite is well known to damage existing codecs and can install incompatible, out of date, or corrupted codecs and cause some major system problems. You may be lucky and avoid the problems........or not.
There's a reason K-lite is not mentioned in our 'Codecs' list.
A much safer method is to install just the codecs you need. Gspot 2.60 will tell you which codec a file requires.
And welcome to our forums.
