Oh geesh, I'm bad at describing...but here it goes,

What software out there that will help me do the edge-cutting.

For example, I took two photos. Photo 1 include me and a white background. Photo 2 include a nature background. I'm trying to cut myself out of Photo 1 and put it in Photo 2.

The software I used before was Microsoft Picture It. But that one didn't help much. There were tiny spot that was cut out. It has an auto-edge finder, but it doesn't help much.

    Any suggestion?

    It's open-source so it's FREE.

PhotoPlus has a very good "background eraser" that is perfect when you have a nice single-color like that. I'm not sure if the version they are giving away at FreeSerifSoftware includes that feature but it's free to check out and they'll cut you a deal on "upgrading" to a more powerful version.

    hi,
I see already you some excellent ideas..... mine are similar maybe add something...

as far as freeware.... gimp is the best! paint freeware.... some say almost as good as photoshop.... !!!! it will do all the things your asking, such as auto edge detect cutting tool and more... there alittle learning curve... on some of it advance features...

if you go with gimp... i suggest you get the GIMPSHOP version!!!! this is modification of gimp to make it more in line with how adobe photop looks and feels plus all the tutorial out ther for photoshop are applicable to gimpshop plus a lot of the plugins for photoshop can work in gimpshop also ...
this link tell you the background and also where to download...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMPshop
this link shows screen shots and other info such as the tools..

as far a freeware although there some good basic paint programs but as far layers and auto cutting type things... i don't know of any other.... gimp/gimpshop the only freeware...

shareware.... several choices out there..... in the 50 bucks and below range...
this is probably my favorite for this category...

in all of these shareware... try the demos before buy and then choose...

note: in all the programs i mentioned... i definitely kept in mind the kind of tool your looking for initially... that is a tool that will hopefully automatically outline a object that you can cut out... with that in mind.. although it can be done manually...
