I want to move video files from my Pioneer DVR-440H HDD recorder to my PC. I burn DVD-RW on the pioneer and use VOB2MPG and MPH2CUT2 and then AutoGK to make MP4 files.
When I view the video on the PC or on TV trough Xbox Media Center there is a dashed line at the top as seen on the attached Jpeg. (Large picture: http://tytlandsvik.no/foto/DSC00135.JPG )
The line is not visible when I play the video from the HDD-recorder and it is only on video recorded via scart from my set-top-box. (Createl Video over IP thing)
Is there something I can do to avoid this or do I have to crop the video with AutoGK to get rid of the line?
There is black "space" on at least three sides. Should I also cut away this or will it not save file space anyway?
What is a good way to find the exact crop points? I try to take a snapshot of a videoframe to measure in paintshop, but it does not work with video.

If I had to guess, that is closed captioning data. It's not supposed to be visible though.

The line seems to be unchanged during playback, al least not more that what could be considered noise.
If it is closed captioning that would mean Teletext i guess. (Norway - PAL) -
Those dots/lines are from the the PAL WSS (Wide Screen Signalling) signal...
More information about it you can find here:

I see.
There is probably no way of removing it from the signal to the HDD-Receiver nor is it desirable to do so. And there is probably no way to make the HDD-recorder not put it on the DVD.
I see now that the autocrop in AutoGK does an excellent job removing the line with the default threshold.
Thank you for your help guys. And thanks to the whole community. There is a lot to learn about digital video and this is a great place to find out about different formats and tools and how to work use them.
