I have an NEC burner that has been working fine and is barely a year old, but recently it produces read errors when I want to verify the data that's written on the discs (Ridata DVD-R)
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like:
During that time, the reading stops and I'm unable to shutdown nero even when using end task.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Kind of hard to read the text ......
I'm assuming it errors in the middle of a write. It could be crappy media ...it could be a dirty laser lens. But my money's on crappy media. A dirty laser lens more times than not fails during the pre-burn power cal. -
Ridata has lost its glow to a lot of people
Try TYs or Verbatum
Good Luck -
1. Try a different brand of DVD. Media is the easiest to change and the most common cause of problems.
2. Try a different burning program. I would suggest ImgBurn. Generally works better than Nero.
3. Does the video playback without errors? A verification doesn't always tell the whole story. Since you apparently have Nero in some form, try Nero CD-DVD Speed and do some scans of your burned disc. That might tell you more about the problem.
And welcome to our forums. -
Switching to another brand of media may not be the cure ... but verbatim is very stable .
Check your power supply unit as well , anything less than 400watts on a modern system will come and bite you at a later time , and can cause these problem's as well .
Cpu idle crap in modern system should be disabled .
All non-essential running task's should be killed off prior to burning .
Defrag hd .
When burning ... do it on dvd-r , 4x ... and dont touch the pc till it's done , and then see if it happen's .

File verification is a very hit and miss affair. I have tested verification with a number of programs using simple text files burned to CD. There was no pattern to success or failure, and in every case of a so-called "failure" I was able to read the CDs without issue in multiple PCs and open and verify the content of the text files. I personally believe a simple read test - can I get the data back from the disc - is more reliable than any verification process I have seen.

I've tried burning with a different media, Verbatim (DVD-R) and it's even worse. It doesn't start burning. This is what I end up in the log file.
D: CdRom0: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1135)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
Any ideas on how to fix this? -

With what you have done, it seems like a burner problem at present.
Assuming media is not the problem, I'll further assume you have checked the DMA status of the burner? Though that usually causes slowdowns, not corrupted discs.
But verifying is not always a good test. If your DVDs play on your set top players, it still may be software related.
From there, check your ATA cables to your drive. Sometimes they go bad. Or if all else fails, consider replacing the burner. -
I was afraid it might be the burner, so I'll try that and report back what happens. Thanks so much for all the help!
