My burner was playing up and so I took it back under warranty and they just took the drive as I needed my PC for other things.

Now its ready to pick up but my old man is going right past the shop and is picking it up and so I will have to install it my self.

Is there anything tricky about plugging my burner back in? Are the cables easily recognisable as to where they should go?

Also will I have to adjust any software settings or should they all be the same (dma etc)? And if they replaced the drive rather than fixed it will that change the way I do things?

    Thanks for any help.

It's extremely easy to do. You may, however, need to upgrade you burning software.

10 minute job, if the same burner is put back in, 4 screws, one ribbon cable and a sound wire to be reconnected and you are away.
If a replacement is put in and a different make, the disc supplied should be used to set up if needed. Window xp should recognise it also

After an over Christmas holiday "helping" experience, it seems bundled software has become mostly useless (e.g. Nero Essentials). Not even an MPeg2 decoder included. Essentials has become just a promo to buy the full Nero $99 package.

In the good old days you got the MPeg2 decoder and a functional version of PowerDVD.
