    Hi..

I'm trying to help out a friend who has a Sony HDR HC3 Camcorder. When connected to WinXP SP2 via USB, Windows recognized as a Sony USB device but asks for a driver. There is no driver disk that comes with this unit, and Sony does not have any to download. Tried it on two different machines (Both XP PRO SP2) with same results.

A Google search has found a few other HDR HC3 owners with a similar problem, however, some of the solutions posted, such as re-installing SP2 and looking for a missing MSTAPE.INF file didn't pan out. Also, we tried, as was suggested at http://hdvforever.com/hdv/hdrhc1/freecapture/default.htm, to go under Add New Hardware and manually add the driver from Sound, video and game controllers but there was no SONY listed under manufacturer.

We are trying to connect via USB in order to transfer over some JPEGs. I'm told that when connecting via Firewire in order to trsnsfer over video (Std Def) similar problem occurs.

Are their any Sony HC3 (or similar model) owners out there that have run into this? Any ideas on how to get this camera recognized?

    D.

    Start with

    P-80

No driver needed to read files on a memory stick.
    Is this not working?

There's a forum at www.dvinfo.net on this cam (I just bought a new HC1)...trubble is, the site's broken and doesn't allow signups. Perhaps there's a thread, though, on your problem.

PS - Maybe someone could point to other forums on the HC1/3/5/7?

    Thanks for the replies...

We'll check out that forum and see if anything interesting is found.

As for the reading memory stick files, no joy on that either.

I know it is not SUPPOSED to need any additional drivers, I'm just trying to convince Windows of that

You should also be able to read the flash Memory Stick Duo in a flash card reader. The adapter may be needed.

This adapter works directly with the Duo
