  1. I must be missing something here.

SVCD Resolution is 480x576 for Pal.
That would suggest that the Vertical is longer than the horizontal! I've never seen a TV like that.

I assumed that it has something to do with interlasing or something so I captured, converted and burned the SVCD exactly as the instructions said on this site. Sure enough when played on my DVD player, quality is good but it appeares as it is captured - A4 shape!!! ie. people really tall and skinny, and a black area on each side of the TV.

If someone could tell me where I am going wrong i would really appreciate it. Basically what I am trying to do is capture from my analog Hi8 Camcorder using a TV card, virutaldub,TMPEnc, and Nero or VCDEasy and create a SVCD.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. All it means is that there isn't as much resolution in the horizontal. The vertical has to maintain full PAL height or the interlace would screw up.

I have made plenty of SVCDs in PAL mode, and none of them have come out on the TV @ anything other than the correct aspect (I have made 4:3 and 16:9)

What are you playing them back on?

  3. Thanks for your reply Jim.

I have since found out where the problem was, when encoding the mpeg, I had the aspect ratio set on "Full Screen - Keep Aspect Ratio" where it should have been on "Full Screen"

One other problem I had was with movement on the result SVCD. It looked wierd and seemd to hurt the eyes. Stills looked fine. I fixed this by setting the field order in TMPEnc to "Top First" instead of the "Bottom first" as said in the instructions and in the TMPEnc SVCD Template.

These are the only two settings different from what the SVCD instructions say on this very informative web site.

Apart from some slight audio sync problems now everything is perfect.

    Regards
    Chris.
