In another forum, someone mentioned they had heard of disc resurfacers in use by disc rental places. The premise is that on a damaged disc, some of the plastic is removed to repair the damage, then plastic is actually added to build the outside surface back up again.
Now, this sounds iffy to me as I can't see how this could be done reliably by a machine used by a small business. But I am not in the biz, so, any truth to this?

There are disc resurfacers, but the ones I've seen just take some of the surface off the disc, they don't put any back on. The Hollywood video by me has one. The Graywhale CD by me will resurface discs for $3.
