Subject says it all. I'm pretty happy with the unit, but to my utter disbelief there is no "menu" button on the remote. So, to take my Monk Season 4 DVD as example, you put the DVD in and are forced to watch all the previews before it gets to menu! You can of course fast foward them, but there's no way to go directly to the root menu. Absurd.

I've tried two different universal remotes and neither of them seem to recognize the DVDR3455H (even a Philips brand universal remote, ironically enough). Anyone found a universal remote that will at least work with the DVD play functions?

By the way, I called customer support and the guy on the phone apologized to me because he too thought it was thoroughly ridiculous that there was no menu button.

    Ideas appreciated. Thanks

Well that seems odd since I thought the Philips was the "big" brother of the Polaroid I have and it does the DVD menu function, even has a dedicated button for it. Since the Philips manual has been touted as a good source for info on the Polaroid (it's manual apparently having been written by monkeys with broken typewritters and then faxed over noisy phone lines to the US), I looked in the Philips manual here

to see what I could see. On pg 13 it says the DVD button (in the top row) is used to "switch to disc mode or display the disc content menu". Have you tried repeated hits on this button when a DVD is playing ? If not, give it a try.

Having used both the Polaroid and the Philips, I think it's bad myth that they are at all related. They're not even remotely the same in how they function.

The Philips had a lot of quirks, and was not the most enjoyable machine.
