I own an old Sony DVP-S550D DVD player. There have been mixed reviews for this player but for me it has been a solid player and it still works.

I recently purchased a Memorex Dual layer writer and It has been great. I have noticed a problem with some of the media my Sony player will play. I first bought some Memorex DVD+R (RicohJPN) and they play ok but on the Sony in certain places it will jump back to a previous spot on the disc. Those disc work fine in the kids portable and also their PS2. Probably just my player.

I bought some Imation DVD+RW 3 pack (philips 041) and they play flawlessly.

I had read that the player would play DVD+RWs. So I went out at Christmas time and bought a pack of Memorex DVD+RW (Infodisc A10). The very first one played fine. I have tried about 10 more in the pack and the player will not even recognize them.

My primary tools are DVD Decrypter and or DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Shrink and IMGBURN
I first erased/formatted using Nero 6 abut I have also allowed DVD Decrypter and Imgburn to erased/formatted the disc.

It is common that an older player will read one disc in a set of 25 but not the other or do I have a authoring problem.

I can use the same ISO and burn it to the imation DVD +RW and then to the MEMOREX DVD+RW. The Imation will play every time. The Memorex are not recognized. The only thing I have not done is re-use the only working backup on the 1st Memorex I used.

So I ask, is it me, the player or bad disk?

I guess the answer is "Software". Last night after downloading the latest version on "ripit4me" I tooks the kids copy of "Pirates 2" and ran through the whole process. On a Memorex DVD+RW that previously would not even be recognized in the player, now loads up ad a DVD and plays the backup copy just fine.

I suspect that when I made the 1st backup which worked that I was using a different version of one of the programs. I may have upgraded and the upgrade broke something. When I upgraded again, all is working again. I will run more test tonight with a small video file to see if the other Memorex+RW will work now.

If you ever think it's the software duplicate the burn on a DVD -/+ R and try it. Works then the software may not be the culprit.
