Hi, I have a strange situation and hope the experts in here can give me some help.

I have so far burned two movies using Fuji DVD+R DL (RITEK-D01-01). Had no problem or error when burning them using Nero with my Benq 1620 DVD drive F/W B7T9, but when I played them with my Panasonic RP56 DVD player they would only play the movie menu screen but not the movie or any other selections. However if I played them with my cheap KOSS DVD player, they play well. So what's wrong with the disk or is it my Pana DVD player is too picky.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. The player could be picky if the other played it fine.

As usual the first thing to do is try different media like Verbatim media. You need really good media with picky players.

Also make sure to use a reliable authoring app like TMPGEnc DVD Author ect... to be sure that the DVD was authored correctly to begin with.

Btw ImgBurn is ideal for burning DL media.

Hi Luke, thanks for your advise. Will give IMGBURN a try next time.

In the mean time, does anyone else have a similar situation and have a soluton?

  4. I have the same burner, it has never been particularly picky about media. Your firmware is fine. Evidently your Panasonic is not too picky either, you can look it up under Players over there <--. Furthermore, you say you've burned TWO, is that correct? Not much of a sample there.

Nevertheless, Ritek is not considered to be good media. Look here:

[EDIT] None of the reviews on your player specify DL discs. Yes, it's quite possible it just doesn't like burned DLs. Your Riteks are 3rd-class media, try some Verbatims. If they don't work, you're probably out of luck with DL discs.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

Some players just will not play burned dvdr-dl disks (+ or -) .... but try as suggested above (disks and apps etc) before condeming the player

Thanks and will definitely try a better media.

I burned two and then stop because I want to find out if I have done something wrong before I create some more movies that cannot be played on my somewhat better DVD player.

    Thanks again!
