Lets say I am gonna create a great video clip! Well, that is only a hypothesis but I want to see the prospects.
Nowadays, in internet age, if the video is really great, can I expect that the whole buzz will provoke some video or music industry experts to take a closer look to me and my work?
Does this case ever happened or it is just a dream? Is the old traditional way of sending promos/demos in specific audio-video mega companies the only sure way to hope for a good co-operation?

yep, it may get you noticed if you get the views and start something viral
if I had a video worth viewing I'd go to www.metacafe.com as they pay you $5 per 1,000 views (min: 20,000 views) -
Interesting timing, I just caught a bit on the idiot box (TV) about you-tube type vids going "Viral" (the first time that I have actually heard the term was in the news bit) It seems that there have been a few "Discoveries" in this manner. But in the end even if you do happen to get discovered in this manner, it will take talent to make it big.
No insult intended, I don't know you skill level or potential. But the most common way to bust into the industry according to most of those that have made it, is thru the traditional channels of schooling and hard work.
Now on the other hand...I do agree that there are a few no talents that have made it big, and the the entrepreneurial drive or will of some, can tend to overcome what may seem like some pretty long odds.
Fate is a funny thing, but if you do hit it big, don't forget the little guys!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

at metacafe.com does the video have to be produced by yourself? Or does that also include videos that you may have stumbled upon and uploaded yourself?

I can't imagine that they have the resources to police every clip.

Yeah but if you get 100,000 posts and they are going to pay you 20,000 dollars, I'm sure they'll take a look at your video to make sure they HAVE to pay it out.

100,000 views would only pay you $500 as it's $5 per 1,0000 but you need to get a minimum 20,000 views before they pay you anything
it's not much but even so, if you get a 1,000,000 views video it's still $5,000 which isn't something to be laughed at 8) -
What if I uploaded a rare news clip? Or an obscure documentary? Would that still pay out, or would that be a copyright infringment and therefore null of money?

Ownership
You hold full rights to the video. This may mean getting signed permission from all the people in the video.

definitely a possibility... throw it up on youtube and if it's that good a little viral and word of mouth will take it from there!
post the video when you are done!
goodluck! -
