Video is shot at 6.3 million effective pixels
It looks like a cute little P.O.S. camera. I wouldn't buy it unless it was under $100, then I'd use it as a disposable camera for high risk situations.I stand up next a mountain and chop it down with the ledge of my hand........ I'm a Voodoo child.... Jimi Hendrix, -
Is that really an error by SLRWorld.Com?
Or are they talking about two different SERIES of Gigashot camcorders?
On the one hand, the "six million effective pixels" seems to describe a Japanese "V10" model. Perhaps there is such a camcorder.
On the other hand, it doesn't match the press release for the "R" series models to be introduced into the U.S. per the Toshiba news release.
Perhaps the "V10" Japanese model is different.
?
Would appreciate any clarification from somebody in the know at Toshiba.

How about a similar type 60GB DV format camcorder?I want something I can edit easier than MPEG.
But, IMO, it's a step in the right direction. -
A good solid 3-ccd camera that records mini-dv to a 60-80 GIG HDD instead of tape would be the ideal camera to me. I have many reservations about the cameras listed above, due to lack of real details.

The price doesn't scare me (I spent $1000 on an old monster VHS from Sears years ago when I couldn't really afford it and never regretted it). I love the technology, but I don't like the thought carrying around a hard drive (I don't pay enough attention to what I'm bumping into). I think I'll wait until they get the ones that dump to memory perfected. I honestly believe they already have this technology but are just trying to recapture their design costs on the other stuff. I've spent MORE than my share on "cool stuff" that either broke or (most of the time) didn't perform as advertised. I'm really looking forward to the day when we just plug it it and transfer it at high speed. In the meantime, I'll have to be content with my Hauppauge, my Canopus, my mini dv camcorder, my VCR, my three dvd recorders......... Jeeeeze - how much more money am I supposed to give these guys??!!???

I wonder...
Could the reference to "six million effective pixels" be a reference to the principle of OVERSAMPLING the video image?
HITACHI, for example, has a new DVD disc camcorder coming out in April that OVERSAMPLES the video image as explained at the bottom of this Amazon.com Web page:
http://tinyurl.com/hm7hh
2.12 MEGAPIXEL HIGH RESOLUTION VIDEO CAPTURE:
"The Hitachi DZGX3200 takes image processing to the next level with a technique called OverSampling."
"This exclusive technology uses the entire CCD to capture both video and still images before converting to DVD format, using the camcorder's entire capacity to create a sharper, more detailed picture."

makes perfect sense, it's like a 35 mm photo compared to 6x6 cm negative. Does it mean that you can't make a print from 6x6. Same principal different application.
