I'v searched around and not found any real answers that would help me with my problem in dvdlab, i have picked up alot as i'v got into the programme, but i'v run into a little problem. or atleast i'm missing something out.

I'v made a video of a friends birthday party, the whole video was alittle under 2 hours, i have it down to 3 VOB files, So i'v linked them all together, so when the person watches the DVD it should play as one complete movie and not 3 seperate clips.

But when i play it back the DVD gets to the end of the second clip (2nd VOB) it then goes back to the start of the 2nd clip instead of continuing to the 3rd and final clip.

Have i missed anything or are there any options i should be enabling?

    PS. i'm using DVDlab Pro

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Draw a manual connection from the end of clip 2 to the beginning of clip 3, and remove any other connection going back to the start of the second.

How did you create the VOBs ? If they are from the same movie and VTS, then DLP should have asked if you wanted to join and demux them. You should have said yes, and you would have a single title that plays through.

If you created the VOBs with something that outputs VOBs with no actual DVD structure, use VOBMerge to join them together, then load this into DLP. Demux to elementary streams when prompted, and author. You will then have a single title, as you should have had in the first place, and there will be no need to join anything in DLP.

    Hi there,

firstly.. i used WinAVI to create the VOB's (from AVI) I was just wondering what you guys use?

I'v noticed WinAVI can be alittle temperamental (the odd time), when i'm creating a VOB with it, the VOB might end up being say 2.3gb. But If I run it again on the same AVI file the VOB might end up being only 1.3gb, with no apparant lose of quality or sound?

So if i notice a VOB is alittle on the big then i just start over and more of often than not it comes out smaller than the first time?

thats exactly what i do, i just have the link (play movie) in the menu that links to the first clip, then i manually draw the connection from clip 1 then to clip2, then to clip 3. Which should do the trick?

But when i play it back, it gets as far as the end of the second clip and then goes back to the beginning of the 2nd clip, instead of continuing to the final (3rd) clip. Its strange, and i'v gone through everything to find where it's going wrong?

If and when i figure it out i'll post it here, but some of the other options guns1inger mentioned might just be the better way, and just cut out all the linking, plus its less files to have to use.

thanks again guys, your time and replies are appreciated.

WinAVI doesn't produce very good VOBs, and DVD Lab Pro is pretty picky about the quality of it's source. Personally, I wouldn't touch WinAVI with a very long pole and tongs. You are better off using a decent encoder (HCenc is free, tmpgenc or CCE basic are cheap) to produce good quality elementary streams for authoring. The only thing WinAVI gives you is speed, but at the cost of everything else.

Second, when working with VOBs in DLP, always demux them and use the elementary streams as the assets.

If you don't need chapter stops between the joins you could also look at using a multi-PGC title (also called a movie segment in version 1.x).

Post a screenshot of your connections window if you still aren't getting any joy.
