I have a TOSHIBA ODD-DVD SD-R6252 DVD+/- R/RW Recorder I was running nero 6 ultra and the laptop Compaq pressario) had roxio creator installed when from new. I could burn & back up dvd's fine. I was watching a dvd from a lecture and the dvd player (win dvd) autoran at the same time as nero. the playback was off and kept stalling and pixelating. I took the disc out but nowthe drive wont recognise any dvds or cd - including cd rom, just keeps saying disc is in a format windows cant recognise.
I have uninstalled roxio, nero, dvd shrink, win dvd, even uninstalled the drive and the drivers but still the same error.![]()
What do you suggest to fix this????

This could be either a hardware or a software problem.
Do you have a bootable CD? If you try booting from a bootable cd and it works, it would rule out the hardware as being faulty, and point towards a software problem.
If it's a software problem, you could try going back to a restore point before the problem manifested itself (provided you're running XP on your laptop). -
From dell laptop's ... it's remove the drive and reconnect it that resolve's many issue's .
Roxio and nero do not like each other ... choose nero only .
Being a toshiba , might require a partial disassemblement of the unit in order to facilitate the simple repair procedure .

And check this out as well : http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_1.htm
To confirm it's an actual issue within the os , consider grabbing a copy of a bootable linux , and set the bios to boot from cdrom only , no hd boot ... if the linux load's , the problem is within the windows os , and in this case the problem may be so embeded only a clean reinstall of the os will rectify the issue properly .
In the event none work , it may be the drive itself has developed a serious fault and need's replacing ... clean the lense after the reinstall , and check ... if not working ... it's a given it need's replacing .
