If anyone knows a hack to make the Zenith DVB 612 regon free or knows how to find it out and can post it to the hack list or here on the forum it would be greatly appreciated.

I live in the United States and this player will play region 0 PAL discs that I have from around the world right out of the box. I don't know if this helps at all with trying to figure out a region hack. I tried the hacks that I used on my previous Zenith players but no luck.

Just gotta say I love this site and how it's helped me make all of my other Philips and Zenith DVD players region free. Thanks to everyone who has contributed in the past!

Just added the hack to let you play vcd and svcd on this player in the hacks section. Same as the older Zenith players. Still need a region free hack though.

Yup, tried the 1080i on my Sony 32 inch Bravia TV. I first tried it through the component cables to just see how the regular picture was and it looked good. So then I unhooked my Philips 5960 from the hdmi connector and tried this Zenith player. It looked really good...though the only other upscaling DVD player I've used in my setup is my Philips 5960. I would say that the image on this player in 1080i looks a bit sharper and flows more smoothly that the Philips. I've heard that the Philips wasn't the greatest upconverting player but I always thought it looked good on my TV and the Zenith looks a bit better....so take from that what you will I guess since I have limited upscaling dvd experience.

I got the DVB 612 because I wanted to get another upconverting DVD player (and I liked my old Zenith DVB 412) to see how it looks compated to the Philips but I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I picked this player up. It's played every commercial dvd and dvd+- r, rw, dl that I've thrown into it so far. With the hack it plays (s)vcds and it also plays Divx 6 ultra files that have multiple languages and subtitles. So, I've left the Zenith hooked up to the hdmi and have my philips hooked up to the component input since the Zenith upscaled a little better. Though, if I could only keep one of them, I would keep the Philips since it's so easy to make it region free (still need hack for this Zenith) and this Philips plays any kind of file that I've put into it without having to do any hacks.

yeah, checked the AVS forum before and I read through that whole thread you gave a link for (I'm assuming that's the most similar LG branded version of this player) but didn't see anything I hadn't tried from attempting to use hacks from all the other LG players. Hopefully someone will figure out a region hack since it can obviously play pal discs since it plays region 0 pal discs with no problem.

I have .dat files, every time to play in this player , I had convert to mpeg (with vcdgear) and whole nine yards. I tried to rename the extension to MPG, getting the picture but not audio. Is there any other way to play these files without going through the process of conversion. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. With VCDGEAR it is working well, I am looking for if any other options/hack available.
