  1. Hi All,

I just uploaded the following 24sec video clip as a test. This was captured using JVC/VHS -> Canopus ADVC110->Firewire->WinDv in NTSC DVType2 format.

    www.lwintegrationtest.com/samplevideo70th.avi

    My current video tools...

    Avisynth 2.5
    Virtual Dub 1.6.17
    Sony Vegas 7.0c
    WinDv
    DvdLab Pro2 2.19
    GSpot
    Cinema Craft Encoder Basic

I've been using Vegas primarily for slide shows until I was able to purchase a JVC VHS player, to convert my old movies. Now that I have a VHS player, I've been researching the different filters from Virtual Dub, and Avisynth and I'm still confused as to what will be best for my workflow. At the moment I'm trying to determine what will be the best filters to use for this type of video, to convert to DVD?

The only thing I'm looking for is to cleanup the noise, and color correction. But then again, I'm new to this, so I'm not sure if there is something else that needs to be applied to this type of video.

    Thanks in advance.

    Matt

For what ever reason the URL tags convert to lower case. The following is the correct path.

    84.8MB download......

White balance (check enable), levels (0,1.140,140), and unsharp mask (5,-4,10) filters in VirtualDubMod.

Video is very low light, white balance shift from indoor lighting (looks like it).

These might get you started. Needs more work

    Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my huge file! I'll use jpgs next time. The video is in low light at the beginning, but the lights are turned on, during the surprise.

Where is the white balance check enable located? Also, I didn't see the unsharp mask filter as a default install for VirtualdubMOD. Where can I download it from?

I didn't know that the levels work like levels in photoshop, which will easy for learn.

    Thanks.

In Vegas, start with the levels filter and use the scopes to set levels. More filters can be applied as necessary.

I usually do basic filtering in Vegas or Premiere. If something special needs to be done in Virtualdub or avisynth, I find it is best to decompress the clip in Vegas or Premiere first. Then work on it in avisynth and reimport the result as uncompressed.
