Hi - I use an Apple iMac running OSX v10.4.8 and would like to find out how to convert .m4v files (which run in Apple's iTunes video player) or .mp4 files (which are running in Quicktime) so that they will run on my Sony w850i mobile phone. The phone can play .mp4 files, but when I copy the file that works on the iMac in Quicktime, my w850i won't play it.

I have tried using ffmpegx to convert the .mpg file from MP4 to 3gp and then play it, but no joy. I have also tried from MP4 to MP4 H264 format, but neither seems to work.

Maybe I'm using the wrong 'to' file format in ffmegx???

    Any advice kindly appreciated,

I have a Sony Ericsson k790. The limits should be the same when playing vids. The max resolution to play mp4 is 320x240.

the easiest way to convert vids for you phone is to use isquint. select optimize for ipod, quality standard. I dont believe the phones can handle high bitrates so dont use high or go nuts settings.
Everything else leave unchecked. When its done just bluetooth it your phone.

theres is also a handbrake tutorial on howardforums to convert your dvds
