You don't convert to avi when making DVDs - it is not a valid format. However it should be done as part of the encoding process. If you use the process posted above you will have to frame-serve to an mpeg encoder from virtualdub, or save to a lossless format from virtualdub, then encode to mpeg2.

Encoding is a very CPU intensive process, and any good encoder will use as much CPU as it can get.

Is it a watermark you simply want to show during your dvd presentation? Or do you intend to use it like sending a "draft" copy to a client (with the watermark), and only the final version would be without the watermark? In other words, does it matter how easy it would be to remove the watermark?

If it does NOT matter how easy the watermark can be removed from the dvd, then perhaps a dvd authoring program that will allow you to add a Button-Over-Video (BOV) can be used as a watermark (like DVD LabPRO 2.x or DVD Architect 4.x) It can be added quickly (as there is no re-encoding -- but in the case of DLP, you won't be able to add other subtitles to your dvd).

If you don't want the watermark to be easily removed, then I like DVDA4's BOV function that can encode the dvd with the BOV as part of the video. Of course, it would take time to encode the video with the BOV, but at least it can't be easily removed from your dvd.

    Regards,
    George
