  1. I have an old pioneer 535 DVD player that has given up the ghost from the laser point of view. It seems a shame to throw it on the junk heap so I was wondnering if it is possible to take it to pieces and upgrade it, especially as technology has moved on.

Anyone any suggestions on how to do this and indeed what on coudl do.

  2. A few simple mods can convert it into an upconverting player with full HD DVD and Blue Ray compatability. Just do a google search...

Try searching to see if you can replace the dvd drive with a computer pc dvdrom. If you have a spare dvdrom and want to mess with it you could get it going. As for the bluray/hddvd thing I can't say as I haven't read anything about that.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  5. I was being sarcastic of course. The Pioneer 535 is six years old and, with a dead drive, ready for the trash heap.

  6. Oh I realised about the HD-DVD and the Bluray bit, however inside the box it looks like mainly plug board into board in a similar fashion to inside a PC. DVD roms are cheap so maybe there is potential.... more as a hobby really.

Anyway would one risk messing around with the inside of a state of the art new expensive machine ....
