i've recently bought a LG RC185 dvd recorder with built in vcr here in the uk. the hack recommended on this site to enable region free dvd's worked fine when i tried it. i played region 1 and 2 discs - no probs.
when a dvd-rw is put into the dvd for the first time it initialises it (same as formatting ?). a dvd-rw disc that was initialised prior to me entering the hack would not play and was not recognised by the dvd. ok no worries one coaster made.
other dvd-rw discs that were initialised after the hack worked fine. i played and recorded onto a variety of discs with no probs. after about 2 weeks the dvd player would not recognise any type of disc , whether it be bought pre-recorded discs, dvd-r or dvd-rw.![]()
i took the dvd player back to argos and it was exchanged without question. i am in two minds whether to re-enter the region free hack. could this have caused my problems ? or was this a fault with the laser ?
anyone got any thoughts or suggestions![]()
cheers

I can't say for certain. However, I have read numerous other posts which report the same problem. I expect the problem is some sort of firmware corruption resulting from the hack. Personally, if the code isn't provided by the manufacturer, I wouldn't use it.
