I downloaded the video from http://www.karate-buelach.ch/Kimura%20Sensei.html using the firefox plugin DownloadHelper.
Now, the resulting file won't play no matter which player I use (tried mplayer vlc avidemux). Only mplayer manages to show at least something, choosing the ffmjpeg decoder.
But the output is very strange:
It seems that the frames are cut into 4 parts of different resolution and displayed one after another.

Is anyone familiar with this behaviour?
Am I using the wrong decoder (since their flash player says that the video was created by Camtasia Stutio 4 I already tried the Smithtech Camtasia codec without success)?
My goal is to convert this video into something useful (in the worst case It would be possible to capture the video from the screen).

  2. This is a swf file ; it's composed of thousands images. It's not a traditional "video" file

If you just want to play it, you could use kmplayer

You need special tools to handle it. If you want the individual images or any of the assets, you need a swf decompiler. If you want a "video" you basically have to capture it. There are tools that simplify this for you. The one I use is sothink swf to video. I use their swf decompiler as well. Camtasia studio can also decompress it and convert to AVI. There are free tools like swf tools, and swf>>avi, but I don't know how well they work

The problem with sothink swf to video, is that it doesn't let you copy the audio (so you lose some quality by re-encoding). You can avoid this by decompiling the audio with the decompiler then multiplexing the audio in later

Thanks! With swftools (swfdec-player) I'm now able to play the file. For rendering the swf I'll give gnash (dump-gnash) a try.
