Either your input gain is to high, or the output signal is to high. Whichever is the source of the problem, you seem to be clipping slightly.

Does your VHS have a volume control, either as a physical dial or as a menu option ?

Can you monitor the audio input through your capture software and adjust it if necessary ?

  5. Yes it has volumen options but It doesn't seem to limit audio output and on my pc it's a firewire connection I can't limit the audio either... I changed vcr... I used a slv-r1000 for the transfer the audio is much better now less noise... the portion where the audio distorted does not distort now but other portions of the video still distort the sound so I keep having the same issue... any ideas?
About video do you also notice a distorted line at the buttom... is more clearly seem on the original avi how do I resolve this too?

You overlay black on it for PC playback. If you are encoding for DVD then it won't be seen.
