  1. Whenever I try to play video with Windows Media Player (10), my computer freezes up and must be restarted. My system is an AMD 3200, GEForce 6600gt card, and 1 gig of RAM. It ran flawlessly until my brother installed a bunch of media players, like Quicktime, VLC, and Nero. These began to conflict with each other. I uninstalled them all, and I reinstalled WMP (even tried older versions), and updated Directx, but nothing works. I'd like to avoid WMP altogether, but it's embedded in certain websites and links, and of course these freeze my computer too. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

You could run a program like Codec Sniper and remove damaged or unnecessary codecs. None of the programs you mentioned should have caused those problems with WMP. I have most of them on several systems with no problems. There is likely something else at work.

The freezing is likely from Explorer trying to read something it doesn't understand.
