a story like this which is well over a year old: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08/23/intel_demos_monahans/
showing where pda's should be. why does it seem like pda speeds and graphic displays are stuck in time?

I think PDAs as a distict market segment is dying - cell phones (or smart phones) is taking over that niche. No scientific evidence - just gut feeling.

<edit>European handheld PDA sales ‘evaporating’ -
I would agree, I do not know anyone in IT or outside of IT that have purchased a PDA. They all have bought smart phones, either the Treo or the Q.
I have the Treo and haven't touched my Palm since -
but still if you look at the inner works of the smartphones its mostly pda so there is no excuse for lack of forward progress. you're lucky if you can find a 400mhz "smartphone". i just dont get why all the sudden the progress stopped x.O we should be in the Ghz by now with handhelds....

You need to balance power with speed.
Do you need a PDA/Smartphone to encode video? or just watch the video? The more mhz you add the less operating time you'll have between charging. -
