I capture tv shows by my AIW 9800 Pro. I use a S-Video cable because it gives me more lines of resolution when I am recording. I record at 720x480, at a vbr of 8000kbs.
Well anyway Womble Mpeg Video Wizard has this feature where one can export there mpeg2 files to the XVid format. I am keeping the aspect ratio of 720x480 and the same frame rate, and Womble as a default offers me a XVid bit rate of 1800kbs. To my eye looking at in on the computer screen it looks quite good when I look at the converted file.
I am planning on buying a Phillips Divx Player at The Source by Circuit City formaly Radio Shack Canada. I was planning on converting some episodes of tv shows to this XVid format. Should I change the bit rate to a higher number or is 1800kbs second a very reasonable bit rate? There does seem to be some distortion in a fast scene, not much but noticable.
What are the ideal settings for XVid to provide a picture that is close to the source material? What settings are most compatable with the Phillips DVP5140. I really like the idea of the XVid format as it is free and DIVX is not. From what I have read the Phillips Player is capable of playing XVID videos. The only drawback that I can see concerning the Phillips DVP5140 is that is has no has no S-Video Output on the back on the unit.
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide me on this topic.
